Description

The Sombrero Galaxy (also known as Messier 104, M104 or NGC 4594) is a peculiar galaxy of unclear classification in the constellation borders of Virgo and Corvus. It is located approximately 31.1 million light-years from the Milky Way. The galaxy's most striking feature is the dust lane that crosses in front of the bulge of the galaxy. This dust lane is actually a symmetrical ring that encloses the bulge. The centre of the galaxy is believed to comprise a supermassive blackhole (~1 billion Solar masses).
